[REVIEW+ DEMO] Face Atelier Ultra Foundation, Face Finish + Sample Haul. *HG*

Thursday, July 09, 2015

While in makeup school I was introduced to a lot of new makeup brands, Face Atelier being one of them and boy am I glad that meeting happened. Face Atelier is one of my top favourite makeup brands (accompanied by Make Up For Ever). I've yet to try a product of theirs I didn't like.

Face Atelier

FACE atelier is an innovator within the beauty industry, offering a collection of sophisticated, versatile makeup that simply works and works simply. It's a unique age and race neutral brand that was designed to be the first consumer brand that was truly good enough for professional makeup artists. -- Face Atelier

Face Atelier is a CRUELTY FREE (Peta and Leaping Bunny approved), CANADIAN brand. I love supporting Canadian brands! They're most known for their foundation but have a lot of other makeup products to share. During my last purchase I bought a bunch of samples and unf, fell in love all over again.

Face Atelier

Ultra Foundation, the heart and soul of FACE atelier and the star of the line, is an innovative approach to foundation that allows you to be in control. It’s a highly pigmented, long-lasting innovative foundation that provides buildable coverage with a natural satin finish. No primer needed! It's built into Ultra Foundation, thanks to the super sophisticated, silicone-based formula. Another bonus - it sets without powder, preserving the youthful, dewy finish and has soft-focus properties that diminish the look of fine lines and wrinkles.-- Face Atelier
I use this on clients often because it photographs wonderfully however not everyone wants a dewy finish and the oilier you are the more dewy you'll look. I personally LOVE the dewy finish which is why this is my go-to everyday foundation.

COVERAGE/FORMULA: It is sheer-medium coverage that is buildable but if you need a full coverage a concealer or mixing is suggested. A stippling brush or beauty blender leaves a really nice finish and the silicones in the formula do have a soft-focus effect that blurs out fine lines and wrinkles. Blends beautifully. HYDRATE beforehand if you are extremely dehydrated. During the winter time this was one of the only foundations that didn't highlight *all* of my dry spots.

COLOUR/SWATCH: I bought "IVORY" which is their lightest warm shade with yellow undertones. This is actually a little too dark for me so I've been using a white pure pigment to lighten it. Porcelain matches me better (I am neutral-yellow undertone).

Face Atelier ULTRA (PRO) FOUNDATION Ivory swatch

DOES IT LAST?: I find that for the most part this is a long-lasting foundation. I noticed areas around my nose tend to slip away faster than other areas. With a primer (or powdering my T-zone first) I get better longevity.

PRICE: Full bottle 1oz/30mL for $48CAD/ "pro" version 20mL for$34CAD OR sample size $1CAD

WHERE TO BUY: Face Atelier or Camera Ready Cosmetics. They are also sold in certain shops around the world (ironically none in Canada lol) check out their STORE LOCATOR to find a store near you.

Cyclomethicone, water, glycerin, aluminum starch octenylsuccinate, polyglyceryl-4 isostearate, cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 dimethicone, hexyl laurate, cetyl dimethicone copolyol, polyglyceryl-3 diisostearate, quaternium-18 hectorite, propylene carbonate, cellulose gum, nylon-12, tribehenin, lauroyl lysine, tristearin, phenoxyethanol, methylparaben, propylparaben May also contain: ci77891/titanium dioxide, ci77492, ci77491, ci77499/iron oxides, mica, ci77019 -- Camera Ready Cosmetics

Key Ingredients:
Cylcomethicone l Cetyl Dimethicone - Silicones are derived from silica that is derived from quartz, the second most naturally occurring mineral on earth. They impart emolliency and significantly enhance a product’s lifespan and effectiveness. They create a soft, smooth product that is pleasant to apply and, in the case of cyclomethicone, impart a unique skin feel. Silicones are naturally water resistant while absorbing sebum (the oily substance produced by certain glands in the skin), thus reducing skin shine. Their molecules are larger than human pores, preventing them from settling into them upon application. The unique molecular structure of silicones (larger molecules with wider spaces between each molecule) allows them to form a breathable and protective barrier between skin and the product. They also have unique healing and protecting properties. Silicones ensure an even application of other ingredients and leave behind a silky, almost imperceptible feel that noticeably enhances the skin's texture and appearance.

Glycerin - present in all natural lipids, it’s a humectant that helps prevent dryness and scaling. When combined with other emollients like silicones, it moisturizes while helping skin heal, reduce associated skin conditions as well as enhance the skin’s natural protection. It also helps skin cells mature properly and may heal wounds more quickly. -- Face Atelier

One of many instagram photos using Face Atelier Ultra Foundation (please note that studio lighting makes my skin appear better than it actually is. lol However this is a great example of how beautifully it photographs. Also used a smoothing primer underneath to get this effect.) On my lips I'm wearing a layer of cameo lip glaze.

This is one of those products that's worth the money. I haven't tried anything that gives me this flawless finish and lasts. Highly recommended if you love a dewy finish. It has HG status in my books.

Face Atelier Face Finish

Face Atelier is all about the dewy finish (however they do have a great matte finish spray if that's your thing) which is one of the reasons I'm such a fan. This is one of three staple fixers/setting sprays in my kit.

USE IT OR LOSE IT! Face Finish is a high performing setting spray and an ideal way to finish your face. This hydrating, alcohol-free mist with the faint scent of freshly cut cucumbers will preserve your makeup all day long. -- Face Atelier
I like to spritz this before application as well if someone needs an extra boost of hydration. I use it everyday however I don't live in a humid climate, if you do I would suggest using their matte finish instead.

Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Citrate, Panthenol, Propylene Glycol, Aesculus (Horse Chestnut) Extract, Diazolidinyl Urea, Citric Acid, Tetrasodium Edta, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate -- Camera Ready Cosmetics

Key Ingredients:
Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract - A cooling, healing agent that soothes irritated skin and reduces redness. It’s composed of 90% water (cooling action), amino acids, proteins, lipids, and Vitamin C that serve as an antioxidants that help soothe, calm skin irritation, and relieve puffy skin. Some of the minerals found in it are magnesium, potassium and silica. The silica helps reduce wrinkles and fine lines by tightening collagen. This extract also acts as an anti-inflammatory and its moisture-regulating qualities make it perfect for revitalizing and hydrating the skin.

Aesculus Hippocastanum Extract - Its venotonic effect provides vascular protection, aiding circulation to reduce swelling. It also has anti-inflammatory and free radical scavenging properties. -- Face Atelier

This is also great if your skin needs to "recharge" during the day too. It'd be nice if they made a travel sized bottle of this.  Best for those with dry/normal or less oily skin types. I have found that this does help the longevity of my foundation. Spraying this in combination with a light powdering on my t-zone before foundation application, one of my longer wearing, dewy finishes.

FACADE: Facade is a neat little product that is a cream-to-powder formula you can use on your face and lips. Arabesque is my favourite sample shade I got. It's a beautiful everyday/natural blusher. I prefer them on my cheeks than on my lips.

LIP GLAZE: Their lip glazes are amazing. They've had them out for a while and I think a lot of other makeup companies are now coming out with high-pigmented lip glosses. I am obsessed with obsessed. It's pretty much one of my favourite lip glosses of all time. Since it's a gloss don't expect it to last through a meal but WOW, is this ever beautiful on. Super shiny (but not shimmery -depending on the shade) and just.. unf. Amazing.

What I thought was okay:

LIP PUTTY: Their lip putty says to fill in lines/smoothen and moisturize your lips before lip product application. It did do as it said but I wasn't amazed at this product. I usually use a wax based chapstick and get similar results.

ULTRA SHEER: This is a great product but I thought it gave me a bit too much of a dewy finish if I mixed it in with their foundation. This is completely personal preference however. I don't usually mix in a highlighter with my foundation but I wanted to try it out. If that is something you do, you would absolutely love this as it's a beautiful opal-iridescent addition to foundation.
