Remedies for DEHYDRATED Skin UNDER $20!

Sunday, March 08, 2015

I think it's important to start off by saying that having DEHYDRATED skin doesn't mean you have DRY skin. There IS a difference! Dry skin is a skin type whereas dehydrated skin is a skin condition. This is something that I actually recently found out after going to an esthetician. I had also thought I had dry skin when in fact, I have combination skin and get very dehydrated during the winter months. Most people don't know or understand the difference and I can't blame them because the two are so overlooked! Funnily enough, while chatting with Sam the other day, she had told me that she in fact had dry and dehydrated skin and always thought she was super oily!

When I asked my esthetician about it, the one thing that really stayed with me is how she explained that dry skin types lack oil whereas dehydrated skin types lack water.

The difference? The two are different, yet the same and it makes understanding these difficult unless you've studied it (or at least that's how I view it). From what *I* understand they share similar commonalities,
- tight feeling
- neither feel plump
- both can have small pores (dehydrated can have large OR small according to Caroline Hirons)

BUT if you're confused because your skin appears oily.. your skin just may be combo/oily AND dehydrated. If you're skin takes a long time to absorb moisture

For more information, I highly recommend you check out Caroline Hirons article on this subject. She is an esthetician and if you look on her blog, a damn good one. She gives great skincare advice!

The one thing I had noticed is that my makeup wasn't lasting throughout the day, would look patchy and just overall not nice. Having my makeup last and look good throughout the day is a must for me. Turns out my dehydrated skin was the cause of this. I now carry these staples in my kit when working on clients (especially during the winter).

Below are products I use to help combat my dehydrated skin and would recommend to others.

This is my HG day moisturizer during winter and I've recommended it to a bunch of my friends. I use the normal/oily combination but if you're both dry AND dehydrated they've got an option for you too. BONUS, it's cheap! Inexpensive skin care products that do wonders? YES PLEASE!

What Garnier claims it does:
Moisture Rescue Refreshing Gel Cream locks in moisture and blocks out dryness using a formula with a unique combination of a pure antioxidant fruit water extract and skin conditioning vitamins. Its luxurious, ultra-light texture is a breakthrough in hydration. For 24 hours of refreshing hydration. -- Garnier Canada

Aqua/Water, Glycerin, Alcohol Denat., Dimethicone, Isononyl Isononanoate, Carbomer, Dimethiconol, Chlorphenesin, Caprylyl Glycol, Sodium Hydroxide, Vitis Vinfera Extract/Grapefruit Extract, Xanthan Gum, Tetrasodium EDTA, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ascorbyl Glucoside, Menthoxypropanediol, Magnesium Gluconate, Sodium Citrate, Benzyl Salicylate, Linalool, Calcium Gluconate, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, CI 19140/Yellow 5, CI 42090/Blue 1, Parfum/Fragrance, Phenoxyethanol.

This is a WATER BASED, oil-free moisturizer (if you have dry skin, this alone isn't going to cut it) so it's going to infuse your skin with water moisture. YAY! Now this doesn't give me 24hrs of refreshing hydration alone but it really gives a burst of good moisture. I find that my skin needs more so I also use a serum and lotion (Japanese term, more like a moisturizing toner here).

It DOES have some ingredients that some find irritating so do keep that in mind (it is scented).

It absorbs quickly, smooths out your skin and gives a nice sheen to your skin. You know that water makeup look that Korean actresses/idols rock? Yeah, they're basically just drowning their skin in water moisture.

HADA LABO Goku-jyun Clear Lotion

HADA LABO Goku-jyun Clear Lotion
I first discovered this from a fellow blogger and Sasa happened to have a sale, so I took advantage. That was two years ago. Never looked back. I have only reordered once a year since, talk about being cost effective!

What they claim:
Instantly hydrate your skin. While it looks clear like a toner or makeup remover, it’s actually a moisturizer that helps prepare your skin for better absorption of other HADA LABO products. In fact, the HADA LABO Goku-jyun Clear Lotion can be used as a standalone moisturizer. -- Hada Labo USA

Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Disodium Succinate, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Hydroxyethycellulose, Methylparaben, PPG-10 Methyl Glucose Ether, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Succinic Acid
I use this after I cleanse and it makes my skin feel soft and supple. I really notice a difference instantly and I'm sure you will too! Hyaluronic Acid quickly infuses water moisture and helps your skin retain that moisture whereas glycerin is able to reach deeper in your skin layers for a better, longer lasting moisture.

The last two I am recommending are NEW in my skincare collection. I have just discovered them this much and my skin is much happier because of it.

Pure Aloe Vera – Made with 98% Organic Ingredients

Pure Aloe Vera
What they claim:
Aloe can be found in many forms in the skin care world, but Aubrey® is committed to keeping our Aloe Vera in its Natural Liquid form. So, there are NO unnecessary additives that may further irritate the skin instead of healing it. You are welcome!
Remember, nothing is better for dry, rough, or sun-exposed skin than organic Aloe Vera. Ours is pure, straight-from-the-leaf Aloe, nature's finest skin hydrator and soothing agent. Be sure to carry a bottle in your beach bag or backpack for those times when you overdo it, and keep one in your refrigerator for a cool pick-me-up.

Aloe barbadensis (aloe) leaf juice*, citrus grandis (grapefruit) extract, cyamopsis tetragonoloba (guar) gum*, tocopherol (vitamin E).

I've tried aloe vera gel before and the plant? Awesome. The store bought gel? Not so awesome. At least for my face. It's really sticky, leaves a green and my skin doesn't like the additives that companies throw in. This however is a lightly coloured LIQUID!

What else I love about this? All natural ingredients, vegan and NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS/CRUELTY FREE! Yes! That's important to me and it makes me really happy to find products I love that don't test on animals.

I love you aloe. I do. I love eating and drinking you too. (-- do not eat or drink this. DO drink aloe juice and aloe foods! --)

OZ Naturals Super Youth Eye Gel

OZ Naturals Super Youth Eye Gel
Now, I know this is labelled an eye gel --and it's a great one-- BUT it also says you can use it on the rest of your face and you should!

What they claim:
Our eyes say a lot about us. Lack of sleep, a proliferation of stress, a poor diet can all affect the way our eyes look. Puffiness, bags, and dark circles do not show us at our best. Also, sun exposure and the inevitable aging process contribute to crow’s feet and even wrinkles on the upper lid. This is why OZ Naturals has created Super Youth Eye Gel. It’s an all-natural product designed to give you real results.

All OZ Naturals products are 100% vegan, cruelty-free, paraben-free, sulfate-free, mineral oil-free, lanolin-free, gluten-free, and GMO-free. OZ Naturals takes pride in making every single one of our products using natural and organic materials. We do not and will never use sulfates or parabens in our formulas.
Gluten-free too? Wow. So.. I didn't do that much research before getting this product (I was actually lusting over their Vitamin C serum) and I'm just finding out all this information now and my mind is basically saying, "oh yeah, so THAT's why it works". (Disclaimer: was sent this to review on Amazon but I like it so much it's going on my blog!)

Organic Aloe, Matrixyl 3000, Palmitoyl Triepeptide-3, Kosher Vegetable Glycerin, Plant Stem Cells, Cucumber Hydrosol, Organic Jojoba Oil, Botanical Hyaluronic Acid, MSM, Hydroxyethyl Cellulose, Carrageenan Gum, Silk Amino Acid Blend (Sodium L-Pyrrolidone Carboxylate, Sodium Lactate, L’Arginine, L-Aspartic Acid, L-Pyrrolidonecarboxylic Acid, Glycine, L-Alanine, L-Serine, L-Valine, L-Proline, L-threonine, L-Isoleucine, L-Histidine, L-Phenylalanine), Wildcrafted Periwinkle, Organic Licorice, Wildcrafted Eye Bright, Wildcrafted Reishi, Organic Gotu Kola, Frankincense, Vitamin E, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Ethyl Hexyl Glycerin.
Those are some great ingredients, so although I can't say anything about wrinkles, puffiness or dark circles because those aren't issues I have atm I can say it does help hydrate! And by the looks of it, it seems like it'd help with a lot more!
