Smooth Indulgence Foundation SPF 20 by Dermablend Review

Thursday, April 04, 2013

Today I'll be reviewing Smooth Indulgence Foundation by Dermablend. I haven't worn foundation in quite a long time. I've been wearing BB cream for years now, much before their birth in North America however, I have actually heard great things about this brand before and was excited to test it out!

Welcome, I enjoy these cat ears although they're slightly uncomfortable (I find most headbands uncomfortable) but they're great for photos! ;3

Disclaimer: I was sent this product to review from nailpolishcanada.com, my opinions are 100% my own.

I got the foundation in shade "nude beige". Ordering foundation/BB cream online can be a bit frustrating since matching your skin tone via some swatch online is a hit or miss. I've been ordering this stuff online for years now though so I'm pretty good at getting a similar shade. I've never chosen a PERFECT match... Until now!

WOW was I ever surprised that this would match my skintone. I couldn't really find any proper swatches of nude beige online but I thought it would safe to use the fairest shade. So I tried this one. Alongside the foundation tube you get a REALLY SOFT triangle sponge. I just use cheapies for some of my looks but the sponge it was sent with felt like a cloud. Very squishy! I don't don't generally use sponges since I find they soak up too much product, so do keep that in mind if you plan on using that especially since the bottle is only 1 fl.oz.

Anyway, here is the swatch for the shade "nude beige" it is against my skintone so please keep that in mind. This foundation has a pink base so it's great it you have pink/blue undertones.

Here is the product description from the Nail Polish Canada website:

Also, photos were taken against natural lighting. Thanks to testing out a few new moisturizers that my skin didn't agree with I broke out a bit. Great for this review, sad for me.

They're not incredible dark marks but they still annoy me! I didn't use any primer because I've run out sadly. And now this is me with the foundation applied.

Do click the photo for an enlarged view if you wish. It covered up my spots very well. I realize that my spots aren't very dark but this foundation claims medium coverage and it definitely medium coverage if not on the higher end. Since I don't think I've ever reached such a perfect match before I felt SO good. I just stopped and thought wow, so this is what it's actually supposed to look like! haha

The foundation has a liquid texture but it slides to the creamy side a little. This foundation is very light however my skin is normal-dry and I found that you could still see dry parts after putting it on. I found the perfect solution to this is mixing it with moisturizer before applying. After doing this, it is now my HG foundation. It feels like I'm wearing nothing, I get GREAT coverage still and my skin feels so soft and smooth.

You're left with a matte finish which is something I'm also not used to. I skip my usual dusting of a finishing powder since I don't need it anymore and my foundation still stays. I've been wearing this out when I'm going to school and work, without primer, and it still lasts. Now, without moisturizer I found that a primer would be best since my pores were noticeable, I'm not sure why once mixed this changed but I think it had to do with the fact that I need the extra moisture for the foundation to really become one with my skin.

Price: It is a bit on the pricey side at 32$/1 fl.oz but a little goes a long way, especially if you're mixing it with moisturizer like I am. I think if you can afford it, it is more than worth it. Like I said earlier, my new HG foundation.

Coverage: Great! It is a medium coverage foundation that definitely works. I would even go as far as saying try out a sample if you have severe acne. Since it is so lightweight it may even be better for you skin, however Dermabland has higher coverage foundations so if you need it you can look elsewhere.

Pros:
+ lightweight
+ medium coverage
+ long lasting
+ SPF

Cons:
+ price
+ texture: if you have dry skin, I think you would need to mix with a moisturizer.

You can buy it online at nailpolishcanada.com and it's up for free shipping (yay)!!! Also, as their name says they also carry loads of nail polish like China Glaze (my personal favourite), Nubar, Butter London (something I've always wanted to try!). Shipping is free after $25 or a $3 flat rate.

Have you found you HG foundation yet? Let me know what it is! Also.. I'm looking for some good primer recommendations if you have any!
